At The Style Rite, we believe
-
We create a dedicated safe space for mothers to quiet the distracting outside noises and expectations. Getting dressed is a powerful form of self expression and deeply personal to each of us as individuals.
-
We discover the underlying why of your personal style. Whereas a routine aims to make a behavior automatic and focuses on the what, a ritual aims to make a behavior intentional and focuses on the why.
-
We stop rushing and take the time to gain clarity regarding your wardrobe and the motivation behind it. Knowing the what, how, and why of your personal style leads to effortless dressing.
Hi, I’m Christina, a mother, fashion industry veteran, and personal stylist who loves helping other mothers connect with and celebrate themselves through their clothing.
I am a life-long lover of fashion who grew up sketching fashion illustrations and pouring over fashion magazines and catalogues. I got my B.A. in Fashion Design and spent 20 years in the fashion industry working in New York, Seattle, and San Francisco as an apparel technical designer across brands that spanned small private companies, large corporations, and tech startups. Over the course of my career, I developed an expertise in apparel design, construction, fit and the product development and production process as a whole. While I learned a lot about the joys and frustrations women experience with clothing through client feedback, I always yearned for a way to directly communicate with the customers for whom we were making clothes.
I became a mother in 2020 and again in 2022. Between the pandemic, the physical and emotional fluctuations of pregnancy and postpartum, and workplace shifts (going from fully in-office, to fully-remote, to “hybrid”, to self-employed), I experienced a lot of change in a short amount of time - as so many of us did. I found myself relying on the act of getting dressed to be a grounding daily ritual that helped me feel like myself and maintain a sense of stability amidst all those shifts.
I understand the busy lives that mothers lead and the amount of time we spend caring for others. It can be easy to neglect caring for ourselves. Getting dressed can be a powerful way to check in and do something just for you. I started The Style Rite as a way to support mothers. I want moms to feel good physically and emotionally in their clothing and I want getting dressed to have purpose, ease, and fun. I love helping mothers in all stages of their lives reconnect with themselves through their personal style.
I can’t wait to meet you!
Wait, what is an apparel technical designer?
As an apparel technical designer, I was responsible for the fit and function of the garment. I would take the design concept and bring it to life using skills like drafting or adjusting patterns, creating and updating measurement specifications, and advising on construction details. The majority of my time was spent in fittings where I would review samples of each style on a fit model, make adjustments or corrections by pinning, cutting, or taping the garment, and getting feedback from my teammates (design, product development, production, and fit model). Then, I would communicate any changes to our manufacturing partners. I had to interpret the brand’s DNA, or the brand’s personal style if you will, into the fit and construction of each garment. It taught me how to take my own personal style preferences out of the equation. A skill that serves me very well as a personal stylist.
Working behind the scenes to make clothes also gave me a unique understanding of fit, design aesthetic, quality, price structure, and apparel brands themselves which allows me to meet my clients where ever they are in their motherhood and style journeys and match them with the best fit and quality for their style and budget. The best part is that now I get the direct 1:1 communication with my clients that I was missing working on the brand side.
